The Hunter region of NSW is an interesting and diverse area; it is the equine capital of Australia producing 70 percent of the nation’s thoroughbred foals; it is one of the oldest and most famous wine growing regions in the country; additionally there are fine National Parks and extensive waterways. In the heart of the Hunter Valley just 200 km north of Sydney and 30 km north west of Newcastle is the city of Maitland.
Situated amongst the picturesque gardens of the Heritage Gardens Nursery in East Maitland is the Garden Table Café. A jewel amongst the beautiful array of plants, this charming café provides a calming and relaxing atmosphere with views of the changing seasons offered by the imaginative plantings.
Jenny Benning has owned and managed the 80 seat café since 2003 and is responsible for the fresh, flavoursome food made daily on the premises. The menu offers a selection of light meals, open sandwiches, melts and a variety of mouth watering homemade sweets.
Visitors to Garden Table can enjoy breakfast or lunch with many taking the time to relax and enjoy the café’s vast book collection before taking a wander in the nursery.
 Jenny’s son, Nathan, is the Barista and prides himself on taking the time to make every cup of coffee one to remember. Nathan believes it is “Belaroma’s great reputation for roasting coffee” that gives them the edge. “We serve a Fair Trade organic blend which is always of high quality and, at the same time, ensures the payment of a fair price to farmers.”

Garden Table Café is open 7 days from 9am – 4pm.
Breakfast is served early on weekends till 11am.
Lunch is served between 11.30am and 2.30pm.
There is convenient access as the nursery provides ample car parking.
