For those that haven’t been to North Sydney, this bustling business district is just over the Harbour Bridge from the Sydney CBD. It is home to many of Australia’s, and indeed the world’s, biggest corporates and consequently one of Australia’s biggest hubs for coffee lovers. The competition to satisfy espresso-loving business men and women is keen, with cafes, restaurants and espresso bars in abundance. This said, the Mawad family saw an opportunity to take coffee to the next level and since opening Cherry Bean their business has gone from strength to strength.
To paint a picture: Renee, Maria, Montura, Rhonda, Sarkis and Marie Rose Mawad took over a tired espresso bar in the North Point Centre, just off Miller St/Pacific Highway which was barely using 6 kg of coffee per week; within six months, the Mawads were confidently pumping out 30+ kg of Belaroma coffee every week ! They really are a great family team and the warmth you feel in their company is palpable. Belaroma has worked with them closely to optimise their coffee sales, plus these guys are just exceptional operators. They treat their customers like best friends and enjoy getting to know everyone personally. We asked Renne what he thought was the most important thing about running such a successful business and he said “Putting Love in the Coffee”……..you can’t really argue with that.
Alongside the coffee, Cherry Bean Espresso Bar offers some amazing homemade food and pastries. Maria and her daughter, Montura, make 15 L of soup every day and it’s often gone before lunch time! Every day is different with Minestrone, Chicken and Veg, Chicken and Corn, Tomato and their famous Bean Soup. All the soups are made from organic ingredients and you can taste the goodness. They also have a variety of homemade sweets and pastries sourced from the best supplies in Sydney. If you’re looking for the best Lebanese, Italian, Greek or even English treats, Cherry Bean is where you will find them.

When asked what he loves about Belaroma, Renee says the “The smell of the coffee !” and demonstrates by opening a bag and offering a waft to the nearest customer, who readily approves - Renee says this is a ritual fulfilled with every bag of coffee! “We also appreciate the fact that Belaroma deals with us with honesty and integrity”, comments Renee and Sarkis, “plus the Belaroma team are always willing to help - from the Managing Director to the Sales Rep and the Factory staff”.
