Are you new to the coffee scene ? Here are some
interesting tips and info ....
•
Do you know that a coffee bean is not a bean at all but a seed from
a cherry-like fruit that grows on bushes?
• Do you know that raw (unroasted) coffee beans are the largest traded commodity in the WORLD after OIL?
• Do you know that the water used to make espresso in modern
machines comes direct from the mains water supply through a filter
and heat exchanger and NOT from the boiler direct - and why?
•
Do you know that the golden froth or crema (Italian for 'cream')
on top of a short black espresso is composed of oils, proteins
and sugars and is a key component of the flavour and aromatics
of the coffee? The crema has elements of both emulsion and foam
colloid.
• Do you know that properly trained coffee Baristas never use a spoon when pouring the milk into a white coffee - except for a teaspoon of froth on top of an espresso when making a macchiato?
• Do you know that a Barista needs to pay as much attention to the COFFEE GRINDER as to the ESPRESSO MACHINE - and why?
